Disc Golf Lingo 101

Discs; the primary equipment, categorized into:
Drivers: Designed for long-distance throws, with sharp edges for speed.
Mid-range: Balanced for moderate distance and control.
Putters: Used for short, accurate throws into the basket.

Throw types

Backhand: Throwing with the back of the hand facing forward, most common.
Forehand (Sidearm): Throwing with the palm facing forward.
Hyzer: A throw that curves in the direction of the disc’s natural fade (left for right-handed backhand).
Anhyzer: A throw that curves opposite to the disc’s natural fade.
Roller: A throw where the disc rolls on the ground for distance.

Scoring

Par
: The expected number of throws to complete a hole.
Birdie: Scoring one under par.
Eagle: Scoring two under par. 
Ace: A hole-in-one, landing the disc in the basket on the first throw.
Bogey: Scoring one over par.

Course terms
 
Hole:
A single target area, typically consisting of a tee pad (starting point) and a basket (target, often a metal chain structure).
Fairway
: The intended path to the basket.
OB (Out of Bounds): Areas where play is restricted; incurs a penalty stroke.
Lie: The spot where the disc lands, marking the next throw’s starting point.

Flight terms

Stable: A disc that flies straight with minimal curve.
Overstable: A disc that fades strongly in the direction of its spin.
Understable: A disc that curves opposite its fade, easier for beginners.

Gameplay
Tee off
: The initial throw from the tee pad.
Putt: A short throw aimed at the basket.
Up and down (Parking): Throwing to the basket and putting in one sequence without extra throws.
